CUET 2022 WILL HAVE A CLASS 12 SYLLABUS
On March 29, the chairman of the University Grand Commission, UGC, M Jagadesh Kumar, said that the syllabus of the upcoming Common University Entrance Test, CUET 2022, will be completely based on the syllabus of Class 12.
He further added that there would be no questions asked about the Class 11 syllabus.
CUET 2022 IS NOT LIMITED TO CENTRAL UNIVERSITIES
UGC Chairman M Jagadesh Kumar in a PTI interview said that CUET will no longer be limited only to central universities but also a few prominent private universities which indicated that they would like to come on board to use CUET scores for UG admissions.
On Monday, the UGC chairman said that eight Deemed-to-be universities, including the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) and Jamia Hamdard, have expressed a desire to use CUET scores to admit students to undergraduate courses.
CUET IS LIKELY TO BE HELD TWICE A YEAR
The National Testing Agency, NTA, will consider conducting the CUET twice a year from the next session. In an interview with PTI, Kumar said CUET will not just be limited to admissions to Central Universities, as several prominent private universities have indicated that they would like to come on board to use the scores from the common entrance exam for undergraduate admissions. “To begin with, CUET will be conducted once this year, but NTA will consider conducting the exam at least twice a year from the next session. The entrance exam will not just be limited to Central Universities but also private ones.”
CUET WILL NOT MAKE BOARD EXAMS IRRELEVANT
On Tuesday, the UGC chairman said that CUET will neither make the board exams irrelevant nor give a push to “coaching culture.”
“The universities will still use board exams as qualifying criteria. Some universities can peg the requirement at 60 percent, some may choose to set 70 percent as a requirement, so there is no question of board exams being made irrelevant.”
“However, the focus on getting 100 per cent marks will definitely be reduced. Instances of a student getting 98 percent but still not getting admission to a good college will definitely be reduced after this,” he said.

CUET FAQs
Format and Marking Pattern?
It will be a computer-based test with multiple-choice questions and will be available in 13 languages: Hindi, English, Marathi, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Urdu, Assamese, Bengali, Punjabi, or Odia. Correct answers will be given five points (+5). There is negative marking; one point will be deducted for each wrong answer. Unanswered questions will not be graded.
Which Subjects to Choose?
Prepare a list of universities/ courses you wish to apply to. Each will have its own set of subjects required. For example, one may require students to take one language, one domain, subject, and the General Test for course X, while another may require two domain subjects and the General test. The student then must take three exams: one language, two domain subjects, and the General test.
Merit List?
The NTA has no role in preparing a merit list, and the candidate will just get the scorecard. Concerned universities may have further screening processes or may directly use the CUET scores to prepare their own merit lists.
How to Start Preparation?
Follow textbooks prescribed by the NCERT. These can be found at https://ncert.nic.in/ OR https://epathshala.nic.in/ Also look for online platforms for additional study materials and support like CUET Books of Altis Vortex Publication.
