Will the Board exams become redundant due to CUET UG 2022 exam?
The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced the biggest news for all UG Aspirants, before taking admitted to any University or College, each and every student has to attempt a Common University Entrance Test (CUET -UG) for Undergraduate students. The University Grants Commission (UGC) said it is mandatory for all central universities to conduct undergraduate admissions only based on CUET-UG. The online registration process for the test will begin on April 6 to April 22.
The introduction of the Common University Entrance Test, CUET 2022, caused many students and educators to question the importance of board exams, as the CUET scores would be given prime importance for UG admissions. However, the UGC Chairperson has stated that the CUET will not detract from the importance of the board exams.
University Grants Commission, UGC Chairperson, M Jagadesh Kumar stated that the CUET entrance exam will neither make the board exams irrelevant nor will it push ‘coaching culture’. He also asserted that students from state boards will not be at a disadvantage in the undergraduate admissions process.
In an interview with PTI, The UGC Chairperson stated that CUET will not just be limited to admissions to Central Universities. Many prominent private universities have indicated that they would also like to adopt a common entrance exam for undergraduate admissions and take admissions on the basis of CUET scores.
According to NTA, the basic eligibility criterion for entrance into Universities remains unchanged. But, a candidate must have passed the Class XII examination from any recognized Board or equivalent. In fact marks in grade XII for eligibility will vary across programs and Universities.
Moreover, The Board examinations symbolize the ‘Achievement Tests’ for students. But, On the other hand, CUET (UG) – 2022 is a selection Test, to take admission to University or students’ dream college.
Hence, Board Exams at the Class XII level are not likely to become redundant. The basic eligibility criteria is a key factor for admission to all universities and other examinations such as JEE & NEET at the National Level is that … Student/ Candidate must have clear class 12th.
Conclusion At Last The introduction of the Common University Entrance Test will neither make the board exams irrelevant nor will it push ‘coaching culture’. The eligibility for CUET – UG is that the Student/ Candidate must have to clear class 12th. So, the importance of boards will remain as same.
